Parking. Probably the most contentious topic in San Jose of any new development, retail center, small or large business, event venue, or bike lanes. But for one day throughout the world, people have the chance to put the Park back in Parking.
Park(ing) Day 2015, is this Friday September 18. It’s a day recognized throughout the urban world, where artists, designers, and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary parks and public spaces. San Jose will be participating again this year from 10am-3pm, on two streets in downtown: Santa Clara Street between First and North Almaden Streets, and San Fernando between First and Fifth Streets for a total of over 20 parking spaces.
Thinkbiggersanjose.com will be joining the Park(ing) festivities this year in conjunction with The Exhibition District, the Awesome Foundation, and NextSpace, along San Fernando Street. At our booths, there will be pop mural painting, outdoor furniture, doughnuts/bagels (while supplies last), an “Awesome San Jose” selfie station and board games. Come on by and join us or sticky note your awesome idea for a $1000 grant. There will also be a game for those who visit all 20+ participants. Come out and show your support of parklets, parks, and the creation of interesting and unique public spaces in San Jose.
